Please be advised that there is
a NEW Throughbred Sire Stakes
Foal Nomination Form, the old
one will no longer be accepted
by the Michigan Department of
Agriculture and Rural
Development (MDARD).
Also be advised that MDARD will
be adhering to Regulation 821
that Sire Stakes Foal
Nominations be received my MDARD
prior to December 31st of the
foaling year.
Therefore
Polly asks that you send those
forms in no later than the 1st
week of December to allow time
to follow up with her in case
they didn't arrive and you would
need to resend them.

1: Even if you have registered with the Dept. of Agriculture previously, you still need to file the new MDARD Breeder/Owner Registration Form (Form FR-098). You may mail or fax the completed form to:

A Michigan Bred is defined as "A Thoroughbred foaled in Michigan whose dam has complied with all state regulations and has remained for not less than 7 months of that foaling year within the state."
A Michigan accredited bred is eligible for breeders awards, owners awards and state supplements for restricted races.
Mare Registration Forms
Required information is the name of the mare, registration number (from the Jockey Club Registration), farm stabled and date bred. Forms need to be in by February 15th of each year.

Stallion Registration Forms
Required information is the name of the horse, Jockey Club registration number and where the stallion is stabled. Forms need to be in by January 1st of each year.

Foal Registration Forms
This form must be submitted to receive certification of a Michigan bred foal. After the foal has been registered and named with the Jockey Club, a copy of the Jockey Club registration papers must be submitted with the the Foal Registration form to the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The Michigan Department of Agriculture then endoreses this registration copy after it has certified the proper registration of the dam of the foal. The stamped copy is then returned to the owner to be attached to the Jockey Club certificate.

Sire Stakes Foal Nomination Forms

This form needs to be filed before December 31st of the weanling year so that a foal resulting from breeding to a Michigan sire, can be eligible to participate in the Michigan Sire Stakes races.
It is recommended to send or fax this form in by the first week in December in case the form didn't arrive and needed to be resent. We recommend following up with MDARD (Polly) before the deadline to ensure your registration is complete. Please note she will only accept the revised form and she will NOT make any exceptions for registrations received after December 31st. Key word here is "received" no longer "postmarked.
